Tri-mix Diver, Shipwreck Photographer, and Videographer

Durrell Martin has been a member of the NDA since 1994 and has held positions from President to Newsletter Editor over the years. An active diver with close to 1,000 logged dives, Durrell was trimix certified in 1999 and has since then enjoyed exploring the deeper wrecks located in the Great Lakes.

His real passion is underwater photography and he has been shooting digital video for 12 years. He worked on several projects with Shipwre4cks and Scuba founder, Joyce Hayward and has shot video for David Trotter and the Undersea Research Associates. In 2003 he was a member on the dive team that surveyed the “Cornelia B. Windiate” for NOAA’s Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary.

David Mekker and Durrell Martin met in 1994 while diving in Kingston, Ontario. While David had already been diving since 1989 and was fully Cave certified, Durrell was new to the sport with just 60 dives in his logbook.
The two of them discovered that weekend that they shared a passion for both shipwrecks and photography. Over the next 24 years, they have done over 1,000 dives together exploring the history of the great lakes.
In 2003 along with their mentor, the late Joyce Hayward they formed White Wind Productions to produce presentations on Great Lakes Shipwrecks.
Their first project “Getting to Know a Ship”, was based on the site survey that Dave and Durrell did on the wreck of the Cornelia B Windiate in Alpena Michigan.
